About the event
The New England Association of Teachers of English (neate.org) is thrilled to invite teachers and students at all levels of education to register for our annual conference - "Contested Knowledge: Literacy, Access, and Censorship Across the Curriculum" - to be held at Eastern Connecticut State University on October 23-24, 2026.
The conference will begin Friday afternoon with two concurrent 75-minute sessions, followed by a social with appetizers, drinks, and a trivia game night. Saturday will have four rounds of 75-minute concurrent sessions and an exciting keynote speaker: award-winning novelist Ann Braden whose books include The Benefits of Being an Octopus, Flight of the Puffins, and most recently, Hijacked by Goats.
Some of the questions the conference will be addressing include:
- How so we prepare for book challenges while maintaining a diverse and inclusive classroom library?
- How do we address self-censorship in curriculum design?

This ticket covers the cost of the conference for both Friday and Saturday. The "Non-Member + Membership" ticket includes a one year membership in NEATE. Appetizers on Friday and breakfast and lunch on Saturday are included.
