Past-President Dr. Kimberly Parker is being awarded the 2020 NCTE Outstanding Educator in English Language Arts.
The Elementary Section Steering Committee selected Dr. Kim Parker and Dr. Gloria Boutte as co-awardees, stating that "uniting these two outstanding educators who work in school, community and university spheres uniquely reflects the vision and mission of NCTE and our section."

We were one of eleven selected for the 2020 NCTE Website of Excellence Award. The award "recognizes [affiliate] websites that have high-quality content, easy navigation ... and interactive abilities." NEATE underwent a challenging website transition from 2018-2019, but it appears to have paid off!
Dr. Mark Fabrizi, Leaflet Journal Editor, is Awarded!
The Connecticut State Colleges and System’s Board of Regents’ (BOR) awarded our journal editor, Dr. Mark Fabrizi, an associate professor of education at Eastern Connecticut State University, the BOR Teaching Award, The teaching award recognizes “faculty who have distinguished themselves as outstanding teachers for at least five years and have a minimum of two years’ track record of promoting instructional improvements for their programs/departments.” More details can be found here.
NEATE News is an Affiliate Newsletter of Excellence!
For the second year in a row, NEATE News was selected as a newsletter of excellence in NCTE's annual Affiliiate Newsletter of Excellence Award contest. The judges noted that it "features interesting articles written in an engaging, fluent voice that teachers find useful, a pleasing balance of informational and creative articles, and a good balance of teacher professional development articles and affiliate information. Appealing features include book talks, member bios, and columns on best practices."
