2019 Annual Conference Call for Papers

The New England Association of Teachers of English (NEATE) cordially invites members to submit a proposal for our annual fall conference in Danvers, MA on October 18th and 19th, 2019.

Submission guidelines are below. We welcome creative and interactive presentations.

The deadline for proposals is June 1, 2019.

The New England Association of Teachers of English invites educators and graduate students at all levels to submit workshop proposals for our fall conference. This year’s theme is Reading and Writing the World Around Us.

NEATE  values literacy and its essential role in our interactions with the world. We are looking for dynamic and interactive presentations that fit the needs of today’s educators and students.

We seek workshops that address the conference theme and/or fit into the following strands:

  • Preparing students to read and write for today’s world

  • Text as a medium for social justice and civic engagement

  • Media literacy as a platform for engaging students

  • Social emotional learning that encourages student voice in the classroom

  • Additional topics relevant to the conference theme

Seventy-five minute concurrent workshops will be held on Friday and Saturday. Conference participants are appreciative of interactive presentations that can be easily adapted to the classroom.

In response to feedback from participants in previous years, we ask that workshop presenters provide some handouts and post resources (such as classroom materials, presentation slides, etc.) on the NEATE website for future use. Presenters are encouraged (but not required) to submit articles for publication in NEATE’s journal, The Leaflet.

Presenters (including multiple presenters) are required to register for the conference, at a $25 discount, and are encouraged to participate in all conference activities.
