The theme of this year’s conference, “Teaching Reading and Writing in New England,” recognizes language arts teachers’ responsibility for their students’ growth in literacy – especially amid the challenges of the national emphasis on standards and testing – but also that all teaching is local, that the particular needs of our New England communities and the cultural context in which we work affect the ways we teach.
