NEATE is an affiliate of the National
Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) that provides New England teachers
the following services:

improving the quality of English language arts instruction

providing opportunity for study and discussion of problems which confront
English language arts teachers

circulating information and resource materials regarding English language
arts to teachers, librarians, administrators, and the general public

sponsorship of conferences and meetings to promote improving instruction
and sharing expertise

publishing articles, reports, and research relevant to New England English
language arts teachers

securing cooperation to render more effective the efforts of English language
arts teachers

integrating the efforts of all those who are concerned with the improvement
of English language arts instruction including forensic, dramatic, journalistic,
library-media, and reading organizations facilitating communication among
college English programs, teacher preparation programs, and the state Office
of Public Instruction with the needs of elementary and secondary school
English language arts teachers
